Clemson University | School of Architecture

The continued success of the COTE Ten architectural design studio at Clemson University is hinged on its collaborative teaching approach. Together and without hierarchy, the professors turn the classroom into a place of intellectual exchange and dialogue. While this intellectual environment is so open as to discuss issues that range among the arts, humanities, STEM, and environmental sciences, the central assignment of the class is highly specific and constrained in its format: two digital graphic boards and a series of descriptive texts. This paradox produces a unique integrative design quality that has raised the bar and expectations for our whole Master’s program. The last five years of ARCH 8510 Studio Design III—co-taught by this team—have yielded 12 national awards for our students, from the main national professional associations of architects in the country. Additionally, student work from ARCH 8510 studio is consistently recognized in the AIA/ACSA COTE Top Ten competition hosted by The American Institute of Architects Committee on the Environment (AIA COTE®), in partnership with the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) - collectively, the most respected professional and academic organizations in the field of architecture.

This website is an ongoing studio at Clemson University School of Architecture, funded by the CAF [Clemson Advancement Foundation].
