Henrique Houayek, PhD | Senior Lecturer
Henrique Houayek is a practicing architect in his home country of Brazil with a Ph.D. in Planning, Design and the Built Environment from Clemson University (2009). He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture and Urbanism at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 2006. He has been teaching at Clemson University since 2008. Professionally, Henrique works as an Architectural Coordinator at AECOM, where he designs large commercial projects, sports stadiums, and urban plans. He has also served as a Project Architect at Daniel Gusmão Arquitetura e Planejamento and Desenho Brasileiro.
Henrique served for two years as the professor in residence for Clemson's Genoa study abroad program. There, he was responsible for the program organization, architecture studio, classes in urban studies, and architecture representation. His work and teaching methodology explores compositional processes that bridge the gap between theory and practice in search of creative solutions for the built environment. Other research interests include: New technologies, creativity, digital fabrication, graphic arts, hand drawing and history and theory of architecture.
